Case Study: Barcelona Pavilion

ADC163 Architectural Visualization | Professor Ariel Vazquez | Spring 2023

Autodesk Revit

This was my first foray into Autodesk Revit in an introductory class. Having AutoCAD experience certainly helped in the transition to Revit, but it is still an intimidating beast of a program.

Our first project was to help us get accustomed to the new system. With its clean lines, low floor plan, and integrated sunken pools, the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe proved to be an excellent beginner-level model while still providing some variety.

As a second-semester architecture student, I was still fairly unaware of how building components came together, but having to make certain decisions on types of walls or thickness of floors instead of amorphous massing helped to put construction in perspective.

In the end, I was amazed at the rendering power of Revit. After taking this course, I completed a few other online certificates to reinforce my skills, and have completed a few other projects confidently and competently using Revit.
